Strange Artifacts While Playing With Motion2.

Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:04 pm

Hello,

I'm using Splash PRO since it's got one of the best picture quality and along with Motion2 feature. I really love the features, UI and all, but I'm facing some issues while using the product. When I play a video with Motion2 slider set to 60p (and 4 and above on the slider), it starts giving me weird artifacts. Like when the camera moves, the edge of the subjects inside the video shows "ripple-like" effect and when there's a fast moving scene, the video gets pixellated a little on the moving object(s), but it is quite noticeable and does not present a very pleasant experience. But there are no problems when I lower the slider to 3 or below.

Another issue is the Fast-Forward feature on *.AVI format. Every time I try to skip to forward, Splash PRO says that it has stopped working and closes ultimately. I've tried and tested it on several computers, and all of them have the same results.

I'd like the Mirillis team to provide me with a response of the above mentioned issues. Should you require my computer specifications, it is as below:

CPU: Intel i3 - 370M @ 2.40GHz
RAM: 4 G.B. DDR3 @ 1066MHz
HDD: 298 GB HDD @ 5,400 RPM - S-ATA 3GB/s
Video: AMD Mobility HD 4650 1 GB Core Clock: 660MHz, Memory Clock: 820MHz - AMD Catalyst 11.6 + AVIVO + HydraVision
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Maintenance Pack 1 - with latest updates, hot-fixes, patches, etc.

Regards,
-Anonymous.

Motion2 still provides some artifacts, we work on this and hope to keep improving the image quality with next updates.
The higher Motion2 level the higher artifacts number will be noticeable.

With avi files, do you experience this problem only with avi files contaiing mp3 audio, or do you experience this problem with avi file with some other audio type too?

Thanks for your reply.

Does the level of the artifact is affected in anyway by the PC specifications? Or it's the same for all recommended specifications?

About the .AVI fast-forward. I really do not know if it's only with the MP3 Audio or not, I haven't tested it yet. I will test it and get back to you again. But as far as I have tried, not even one of the .AVI or non .MKV files had fast-forward support. I can tell since I manually tried to play a DVD on Splash PRO.

And speaking of DVD, I thought it'd be worthwhile to mention that it'd be very beneficial to many if Splash PRO had native DVD support, like all other media players. I look forward to your reply.

Regards.

I can confirm that all fast-forwarding feature does not work with the .AVI files with MP3 audio format. I'm not sure about the other audio format as I don't have any samples to test.

DVD is planned to be added but it will be not available in current Splash versions.

Artifacts levels should not be affected by PC specs.

About fast forward problem, can you please check if it occurs with
audio track disabled (right mouse button menu, audio track - disable)?
